Tucker (装甲車両 タッカー Sōkō Sharyō Takkā?, lit. "Armored Vehicle Tucker") is an enemy in the Contra series. It is a heavily armored tank with a triple cannon that fires in a spreading manner.
Appearances[]
Super Contra[]
A heavily armored tank featuring a triple cannon and with a soldier manning a minigun on its top. The cannon fires in a spreading manner toward the front, while the gunner can aim diagonally depending on the player's position. Two appear in Area 2, Inside the Federal Military Base, the first one enters the screen from the right side and the second from the left.
Three of these tanks appear in the NES conversion of the game, Super C; however, this variant is non-mobile and functions more as a manner of blockade. The spreading cannon shoots more frequently than its arcade counterpart, although rounds fired leave wide openings between them, providing safe spots where not even the gunner can aim directly at, thus allowing the player to deal with them at their leisure.
Operation C[]
Two Tuckers are encountered in Area 2 and they act as minibosses of this stage. This variant of Tucker is much larger and features two triple cannons instead of only one, although it has no armed soldier on top. Both enter the screen from the left side, and the cannons take turns in firing spreading shots. After a moment, the tank will move sideways and open fire again. Once both cannons are destroyed, the whole tank will explode. The first tank appears about one third through the level, attacking from the front, and the second one appears near the end of the level, attacking from the rearguard.
Two more make one last appearance at the end of the stage, although in a different form, as they are actually part of the end boss, the Large Armored Vehicle Kirgey. The boss is initially encountered inside a container lying on the ground; two Tuckers will then enter the screen from both sides, lift it and attach to it, with all three machines in conjunction resulting in a single, giant tank. The Tuckers will continue their usual behavior and limit themselves to fire their spreading cannons during the course of the battle. The cannons can be destroyed in order to remove the threat they pose, although the central cannon is the one that has to be destroyed to defeat the boss entirely, regardless of the number of cannons remaining.
