The Snow Worm is a miniboss in Contra: Shattered Soldier.
Description[]
A large worm-like creature possessing a thick layer of armor or skin. It has a large head and long destructible segmented body. The creature itself is powerful enough to tunnel through snowy mountains at great speeds, fast enough to keep up with a snowboarder. It appears within a snow-filled mountain of the Fortress region, chasing after the two heroes snowboarding down the snow-filled mountain. It will tunnel and jump all around the background, with a few of its jumps reaching the foreground attempting to ram into the heroes. It cannot be seen while it is tunneling under the snow, this causes the worm to be difficult to track effectively.
When it is in the foreground, it is vulnerable to Weapons fire. Concentrated fire will damage its segmented body piece by piece. When its armor is destroyed, its skeletal body can be seen. After all of its body parts are removed, its mouth will glow an exposed core, its head now being its weak point. When this is revealed, the worm will tend to tunnel more often in the foreground with slightly increased speed.
The heroes only have a limited time to eliminate the Snow Worm before it decides to swim away. While this enemy isn't necessary to defeat in order to clear the stage, it grants Hit Rate % when eliminated (for a higher Rank). After enough shots to the head, it goes down and comes apart into pieces.
The Land Worm appears to be an ancestorial species of Snow Worm, seen in the far distant future of Neo Contra. Visually, they both appear identical.
