A Motoroid is a type of vehicle utilized by the Hard Corps in Contra: Hard Corps.

Description[]

The Motoroid (as named in the Contra: Hard Corps instruction booklet) is a type of hoverbike very much akin to previous bike vehicles of the past utilized by both allies and enemies alike to get to places in a hurry or to travel on the roadways. A Motoroid is painted cyan blue with a red seat and front red lower fin, and houses a single headlight on the front with a tiny windshield placed just above. The Hard Corps use these vehicles on numerous occasions to travel fast on the roads, especially when other vehicles are unavailable. In one stage, a Motoroid is shown to be launched into the ocean to save the heroes from a watery grave, making it seem possible that these vehicles contain an onboard autopiloting system.

As seen in two different stages, a Motoroid has the ability to transform into alternate shapes for better travel over a variety of terrains. There are three variations of a Motoroid shown: The standard bike, the humanoid bike, and the sea bike. The sea Motoroid takes on a simplified look of the standard bike, with its red fin and back portion retracted. Also, its windshield is lowered. The humanoid bike extends parts of itself to display limbs, such as the red fin becoming soles for the parts of the Motorbike that become legs. The front air jet attachments extend outward to become hands, and the beak of the vehicle retracts slightly to give it more of a face-like appearance.

The Hard Corps use these vehicles during multiple stages throughout their missions. The heroes will always drive a motorbike during Stage 2, but it will end up being demolished. The Motoroid may or may not return, depending on the path chosen. Riding on a Motoroid behaves identically to the motorbikes the heroes rode in Contra III: The Alien Wars, with the exception of the sea speeder morph, which allows the player free movement as normal while riding atop the seafaring Motoroid. Sliding cannot be performed on a Motoroid (except when on the sea Motoroid). If on a Motoroid the player presses down, their aim will automatically adjust to the left side angle once the button is released. Likewise, if the player presses up on the D-Pad, their aim will automatically point rightward once the button is released. If the player jumps while riding the humanoid bike, the entire bike will jump with the pilot onboard. Browny cannot perform his Double Jump while riding the humanoid Motoroid form.

Trivia[]

  • The Proboterror is a similar robot that has three different variations of itself (a standard form and two alternate transformations). Both robots also possess a humanoid form, but unlike the Motoroid, a Proboterror starts off as a humanoid shape.
