The M78 is an enemy in Contra: Hard Corps. It is a large multi-legged mechanical beast.
Description[]
A large multi-legged mechanical beast presumably used for terrain reconnaissance and extermination. Only two appear in the game, both in the first stage, City Battle, although only one of them is actually fought. Its body resembles a mechanical centipede with ten long spider-like legs, which make it rise above the ground a considerable height.
The first one appears during a small introductory cutscene, where it gets run over by the Hard Corps' vehicle as they enter the city ruins. Another one appears shortly after; it can only be damaged by shooting at its head and will explode after sustaining just a few shots from concentrated fire.
Trivia[]
- If the second M78 is ignored and it reaches the left side of the screen, it will strangely self-destruct.
- The M78 behaves similarly to the Gebolien, another enemy encountered within Contra: Hard Corps.
