A Damnation Engine is an object seen in Contra: Rogue Corps.

Description[]

A Damnation Engine is a circular ring of glowing yellow energy encased in what appears to be metal and roughly the size of a small tire. It generates massive power on its own, with multiple fueling near unlimited energy to the Damned City. There are at least four (possibly five) known Damnation Engines throughout Rogue Corps. Physically, they only appear in V-logs cutscenes and not during actual gameplay, although they still serve significance in the latter due to being an important plot element.

With the help of Dr. Claude Banks, the Rogue Corps work on a plan to shut down the Damned City. The doctor mentions that the living city has built an underground network of chambers, where the Damnation Engines are located. By removing the engines, the Dimensional Gate can be overloaded. The Rogue Corps commence with their "heart attack" plan by targeting each of the four specific locations where a Damnation Engine lies.

During the end of one of their Damnation Missions, the Rogue Corps are confronted by General Phoenix. During a skirmish with the General's army, Hungry Beast is knocked off balance by the General's Mega-Fiend and drops the recently acquired Damnation Engine. It lands right in front of the General, who wastes no time picking it up. After a conversation with Kaiser, the General places the dropped Engine at the base of the Mega-Fiend. This causes a surge of energy to fluctuate into the giant Fiend, but the resulting mass of power causes the General to be caught in the Engine's channeling. This results in the General fusing with the Mega-Fiend, creating a destructive Fiendish fusion. The Rogue Corps abandon the General while they focus on the remaining Damnation Engines. The crew eventually returns to subdue the General. It is unclear what became of the stolen Damnation Engine.

One Damnation Engine is seen after the Rogue Corps's successful mission at killing off the Damned City's control. A monstrous General Phoenix (revealed to be alive after his fused defeats) picks up a Damnation Engine at an undisclosed location underneath the Damned City. The object and the General's fate remains unrevealed. It is unknown if this is the same stolen Damnation Engine that may have become separated from the General after his defeat, or if this is an entirely different one from the acquired four.

With the eventual death of the Damned City, what became of all the Damnation Engines has yet to be revealed.
