Crushing Layer OG

Lance Bean surviving the falling ceiling in Operation Galuga.

The Crushing Layer[1] is an obstacle in the Contra series. It is a large horizontal ceiling that lowers its vertical height, threatening to crush the players.

Appearances[]

Contra 4[]

Appears in the Harvest Yard. This is the last major room inside Black Viper before finally reaching the throat where the boss awaits at the top. The Crushing Layer will smash down the floor from above then rise back up in a few seconds, repeating this process within a timely manner. There are small indents in the wall that give players enough space to be free from harm. Some indents however appear too thin to be standing directly above them, requiring the hero(es) to crouch to avoid a crushing defeat. A few Wadders will be this region's annoyance as they inhabit the floors below the crushing layer. Despite looks, the walls of the Crushing Layer are safe to touch (when not being crushed by it that is).

If one moves slowly at the end of the crushing layer, one can see a mysterious-looking human face.

Hard Corps: Uprising[]

Appears inside the Ruins. When entering a certain room, the heroes are locked in. The ceiling then begins to descend slowly as the heroes remain trapped inside the room. They are forced to escape quickly before the wall completes its descent. The exit is located at the far right of the room, while boulders prove to be a grand hinderance toward their escape plan. Should the ceiling reach a certain elevation, the ceiling will then slam down to the floor quickly, killing any player caught in its slam regardless of Health. If the player(s) have any remaining lives in stock, the ceiling will then quickly raise back to the top of the room as the game continues. Within a second however, the ceiling will slowly lower again, repeating its procedure. Once the heroes reach the exit, the ceiling slams down for good, sealing the previous rooms.

Contra: Operation Galuga[]

Crushing Layers appear in the Ruins stage.
