Contra Wiki
Note: This page attempts to accommodate all games that have been released in the Contra series, as well as certain relevant events, in chronological order in a single timeline just for an easy and comprehensive usage; however, it must be noted that many of these titles take place in their own continuities (stated in their respective sections) and don't form part of the main canon timeline.

This page lists the chronological order of events within the fictional universe of the Contra series.

Timeline[]

1973[]

Contra ReBirth
Note: Because of time travel use within the story, this game takes place at a few different points in time.
  • The Neo-Salamander Force travels back in time from the year 2633 to the year 1973 with the objective to eliminate the Contra force while Earth's defenses are still no match to theirs. They set their base on the ruins of the Shizuoka temple at the Yucatán peninsula in Central America (although its actual real life location is in Mexico). A clone of Bill Rizer and Genbei Yagyu, two members of the present Contra team, are also sent back in time to stop them. With the additional help of BR-W9, a gynoid, and Newt Plissken, a reptilian-humanoid alien, the Contra warriors manage to take down the Neo-Salamander Force, save the past and successfully return to the future.

1992[]

Contra Force
Note: Contra Force was never released in Japan. Moreover, Contra 4's "Museum" section confirms this game doesn't form part of the official timeline.
  • In 1992, C-Force –a task force comprised of former military professionals– is formed to protect Neo City from terrorism. One day, they receive a phone call from their informant, "Fox", who tells them that the Head of Intelligence is being threatened by a criminal organization known as D.N.M.E. After various battles, the C-Force manages to save Neo City from D.N.M.E.

2613[]

Hard Corps: Uprising
  • Stars the ex-Commonwealth elite soldier, Bahamut, and his companions in a rebellion against this Empire, led by the sadistic Tiberius. This game serves as a possible background origin of the main antagonist of Contra: Hard Corps, although it was never established to be part of the main Contra canon.

2627[]

  • The Moirai Ruin, along with the Moirai Relic in the center of the sanctuary, was discovered by an earthling miner expedition sent to Jupiter.[1]

2631[]

2633[]

Contra
  • Stars Bill Rizer and Lance Bean as they faced off against a terrorist group known as Red Falcon in the Galuga Archipelago, which was later revealed to be controlled by an extraterrestrial army secretly planning to invade Earth, presumably with the intent of conquering the planet.

26XX[]

  • In the original Japanese version, Bill Rizer fights the army of an unnamed hostile nation that is seeking to use an alien cell to produce weapons of mass destruction. In the Western version, the enemies are instead working for an alien entity known as "Black Viper". Likewise, the main character's identity was changed from Bill to Lance Bean. Not only that, according to Contra 4, Mad Dog and Scorpion were also mentioned to have assisted both Bill and Lance during this mission.

2636[]

Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Red Falcon attacks the Earth for the third time, in a full-scale conflict that came to be known as the "Alien Wars". Bill Rizer and Lance Bean were sent in one more time to, not only thwart their plans, but also to destroy the majority of their army.
    • In the American version, Bill and Lance were replaced by their non-canonical descendants, Jimbo and Sully.
    • Also in the American version, it is stated that the Alien Wars started on February 14, 2636.
Contra: The Board Game
Note: This game is not part of the official Contra timeline.
  • Two months after the Alien Wars, the Earth Federation Government pick up satellite images of a rebuilt stronghold on the Galuga Archipelago, with the alien menace known as Java being spotted. Bill, Lance, Lucia, and several other commandos are sent in to investigate and eliminate the fortified alien stronghold.
Contra 4
  • Six months after the end of the Alien Wars, Black Viper attacks the Earth one more time and nearly destroys it. Bill Rizer, Lance Bean, Mad Dog and Scorpion are sent in to initiate a final strike mission to destroy the remaining alien invaders once and for all.

2638[]

Contra: Rogue Corps
  • Two years after the end of the Alien Wars, a new threat arises amidst the suddenly risen ruins of a large urban area, appropriately called the Damned City, which is infested by dangerous mutants. Not only that, but anyone who enters the city loses their mind. A group of rogue mercenaries immune to its effects are sent inside the city to find a lost scientist who may have the cure to this illness, although throughout the course of the story, their mission becomes personal.
