The Snow Field is the fifth stage in Contra.
Overview[]
- Note: Starting from this stage, the difficulty of game significantly increases.
A frozen landscape high atop the mountains of the Galuga Archipelago. It features inclement weather with frequent snowstorms, rocky mountainsides, and areas completely covered with snow. It also has a lake from where enemies like to prepare ambushes. Also, starting from this stage some Greeder variants come armed with guns and will not be hesitant to use them, running up to the player and opening fire. Their bullets are fast and may catch the player by surprise if they are not paying attention.
Regional differences[]
- In the Famicom version of Contra, a snowstorm background plays out in certain areas. This background is removed in all other versions.
- In Probotector, the napalm grenades color is changed from blue to gray (likely due to a matching palette with the player 1 character).
