An offshoot of the Assassin Cybots made by the defunct Wade Industries before the Alien Wars. After the wars, Wade merged with software giant ChuckSoft and formed Chuck/Wade Arms, Co. Their first venture was the CD (Cyborg Destroyer) series. This particular unit-from the 288 class-was reprogrammed by a member of the HARD CORPS to function in both anti-gravity and underwater environments. Previous Destroyer units had limitations in these conditions, but were totally ruthless in all other situations. Some of the suits at Chuck/Wade are against these modifications and want the unit returned-but skeptics say that they just want the ability to market the unit themselves.
~ Contra: Legacy of War description[2]

CD-288 is a character and one of the main protagonists in Contra: Legacy of War.

History[]

A direct result of an offshoot of the Assassin Cybot series made by the now defunct Wade Industries before the Alien Wars. After the war, circumstances led to the merge of Wade Industries with the software giant ChuckSoft, and formed Chuck/Wade Arms Co. Their first venture was the CD (Cyborg Destroyer) series.

This particular unit from the 288 mark series was reprogrammed by a Hard Corps tech member to include optimal functioning levels in both underwater and anti-gravity environments. Previous Destroyer class models had limitations in these conditions, but were totally efficient and ruthless in all other situations. Some of the suits at Chuck/Wade Arms Co. are against these modifications and demand that the unit be returned, but skeptics say they just want the ability to market the Cybot themselves.

There is a rumor floating about the Hard Corps that the C-D 288 is becoming self-aware, although its only available comment is: "Crush, kill, destroy the enemies of Hard Corps!"

Plot[]

CD-288, alongside Ray, Tasha, and Bubba, was sent on a mission to stop Colonel Bassad. After making their way from a city into a hidden mountain fortress and subduing the colonel, the team was then absorbed into Bassad's brain as a last-ditch effort. Faced with several previously fought enemies, the four soldiers struggled to survive the onslaught of attacks in Bassad's degrading mind.

Overcoming the mind games, the team was inexplicably teleported onto a satellite planet which housed the last forces of the alien threat, and which was subsequently eliminated. The planet then exploded, and the heroes were sent drifting in uncertainty on a broken piece of rock from the planet. Behind them, an arthropod alien was revealed to be hanging on the side of the rock.

With Ray's leadership, the elite Contra Force was able to survive being stranded in deep space long enough for a rescue team to teleport them all back safely on Earth. From there, the four went their separate ways, with Ray retiring after a few successful campaigns. What became of CD-288 following the events of C: The Contra Adventure is unclear, as the robot is never brought up in name or appearance. With both Bubba's and CD-288's presence no longer available, it was left to both Tasha and Ray to finish the mission the four originally started and eliminate the alien invaders once and for all.
