The Bamboo Arcade is a location in Contra: Legacy of War.

Description[]

The Bamboo Arcade is a small juice shack located inside the Jungle. When entered, the heroes have the option to play up to two available arcade games from the active arcade cabinets present. The cabinets can be shot by gunfire, rendering them unusable. To play one of the available games, simply stand in front of the arcade cabinet; its screen will then zoom closer to the player's screen as the bonus game launches.

To quit a bonus game, simply pause the game at any time and select QUIT and confirm. This takes the player(s) back to the shack and shuts off the arcade cabinet that was just played. Once both arcade cabinets are shut down, the camera pans to the outside of the shack, where a squadron of soldiers awaits to ambush the heroes. The main game then continues as normal.

Games[]

Gyruss[]

The arcade machine on the left plays a remake of Gyruss,[1] a real-world arcade game developed by Konami in 1983. The ships act as the player's hit points. Tapping the FIRE button produces fire, while a special bullet is also able to fire but in limited quantities. Throughout a stage, a box in-between two enemy protons may appear. Shooting down the box will grant firepower to the ship, allowing it to fire stronger weapons. The first weapon upgrade is a red stronger blaster, followed by a twin blaster.

In a 2 Players game, a second identical ship flies alongside player 1's ship. The two ships cannot pass thru each other, requiring the pair of ships to cooperate in order to gain evasive room.

There may be a glitch where the ship loses all its lives, but the game continues to run, soft locking the arcade game but not the pause menu.

Pac Tank[]

The arcade cabinet on the right features an arcade game resembling a mix of two Namco games: Pac-Man and Tank Battalion, properly named Pac Tank.[1] The player controls a green tank and must move around a maze of thin corridors to pick up all available "pellets" on the map. Each pellet is worth 1 point (in the arcade game's scoreboard). The tank can be moved using directional input, with its frontal position depending on how it enters a corridor when turning in one. The tank is able to fire a missile straightforward using the FIRE button, but ammunition must be acquired first, and only when available. The tank cannot fire when facing a solid wall. On the map, there will be obstacles such as land mines that damage the player tank, and rubble that can be destroyed by player fire. Ammunition crates grant a large amount of available missiles, while a single missile on the map grants just one.

In each map, there will be an enemy tank present. This silver clad vehicle slowly drives down corridors and does not drive in reverse. Once it catches the player tank in its sights, the enemy will launch a twin missile barrage immediately at the player tank. Enemy tanks will not drive over land mines. The tank can be destroyed by a player tank missile, and grants a large amount of points, but when destroyed, another silver tank immediately takes it place. Tanks possess invincibility frames when spawning. They cannot fire or be harmed until the invulnerable period ends. In later arcade stages, there will be multiple enemy tanks simultaneously present.

If a second player is present, that player will also be on the map in a blue colored tank. Both players can pass through each other and their own missiles will not harm each other.

When the player's tank takes damage from an enemy tank or land mine, a life stock is lost. Should the player tank lose all tank life stocks, the current game ends and the player is forced to restart from the arcade game's first stage. The player can quit the game anytime by pausing and selecting exit. Once the player tank collects all the pellets, the current arcade stage immediately ends and the next one loads in. It is currently unknown how many arcade stages exist.

When a stage is cleared, a voice streaming a low-pitched yell can be heard. This same low yelling is also heard when successfully accessing the Stage Select menu and when clearing a stage. The actor behind this voice is unknown.
