Bullet Augmenting Device (B.A.D for short, also known as M.A.D (Modification Assist Device) in Japan) is a feature in Contra: Rogue Corps.

Description[]

B.A.D is a system which allows a Main or Sub weapon to be equipped with certain Equipment, enhancing various effects such as Cooldown and Attack Power. As an item itself, a B.A.D resembles a square box with green lighting in between its faces and with a small black plug meant to equip itself to a character's weapon.

There are various types of B.A.D parts such as Boosters, each with their own icons. Like Body Parts, they come in five different rarities: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and Legendary (also noted by its respective colored aura when obtaining from fallen Fiends). Some B.A.D parts are duplicates of each other but exclusively for either a Main or Sub weapon only. AI chips help increase the weapon's gained exp. When equipped. B.A.D parts can be found during Missions as item drops or reward bonuses, as well as being purchasable in the Workshop's shop or the Carnage League's Barbarian Shop. when a weapon levels up, any equipped B.A.D will also level up as well. Each B.A.D obtained has a specific level ranging from 1 to 10, with higher level B.A.D being found in higher rank Missions.

Up to six B.A.D parts can be equipped to a weapon at a time. Each B.A.D part has its own "points" worth when equipping. Each weapon also possesses a maximum number of B.A.D "points" the weapon itself can hold. When equipping B.A.D parts, the total number of Equip points cannot exceed past the weapon's B.A.D points capacity. When swapping weapons in the Customize menu, B.A.D parts will carry over unless an exclusive part is incompatible, in which case a prompt will warn that the part will be returned to the inventory if proceeding.

B.A.D parts are important ingredients for the development of weapons. After obtaining a Core weapon part, the player can use the Workshop to attempt to develop that weapon by using B.A.D parts. Each part has its own "points" system separate from the customizing points menu. Usually, its rarity will note how powerful its points are, which are used to fuel the development process. Each level a B.A.D part gains adds an additional amount of that part's natural amount, meaning a part that is considered 3 points for development will have 6 points at level 2, and so forth (Development points times number of Level). Commonly, Core weapon development usually costs 10 B.A.D part points per category. B.A.D parts used in weapon development are gone from the player's inventory once the weapon has been successfully developed.

The exact spelling for B.A.D isn't quite clear. Although in many instances there is no period at the end of the D, there is some cases within the Pause Menu Game Guide and the smaller loading tip text where a period is used at the end of the Capital D. One instance of the word also uses a plural form of B.A.D where the dot at the end of the D is not used (B.A.Ds, see Official data below).

Trivia[]

  • In most instances appearing within the game, the acronym "B.A.D" omits the period at the end (e.g.: "B.A.D."), although there are a few exceptions (like in the Pause Menu Game Guide). This omission is also present in the original Japanese variant of this name "M.A.D". This hints that this could have been a style choice by the developers, possibly to make the acronym look more symmetrical (a recurring styling that can also be seen on acronyms from other Japanese products). It is worth mentioning that the omission of the end period seems to be mainly used where the acronym appears as a title, whereas it is more frequently seen with it when the acronym appears within normal text.
  • All Uncommon and Rare B.A.D with the VNM Affinity icon reference the Paralysis effect in text, whereas all Uncommon and Rare B.A.D with the OHM icon refer to the Poison status effect in text. This appears to be a categorization mistake by developers.
